Ingredients: 1 bag Oreo cookies (regular or "double-stuff") 1 bag (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips 1 bag Hershey's Kisses Shoestring licorice Vanilla icing Toothpicks Directions:Line a cookie sheet with wax paper. On the wax paper arrange the Oreo cookies approximately 1 1/2 inches apart. Count to see how many cookies are set on the tray and remember this number. Set aside. Unwrap the same number of Hershey's Kisses as to match the Oreos. Set aside. Cut the shoestring licorice into 2- to 3-inch pieces; you will again need to have the same number of 2- to 3-inch pieces as the Kisses and Oreos. These will now be your "long licorice pieces." Set aside. Cut the remaining shoestring licorice into ?-inch pieces. These will now be your "short licorice pieces." Set aside. Empty the 12-ounce bag of semisweet chocolate chips into a double boiler* over medium-low heat. Stirring constantly, melt the chips until creamy and smooth. Continue to stir the melted chips after each step below and as needed. Assembly: Begin by setting the Kisses, Oreos and licorice within reach of the melting chips. While holding the pointed end of the Hershey's Kiss, dip the flat, bottom part into the melted chips and then press onto the center of one of the Oreo cookies. Repeat until each Oreo has a Kiss. Returning to the first Oreo, dip one end of a long licorice piece into the melted chips and attach to the BACK of the Oreo, the un-dipped portion exposed. This is the "door mouse" tail. Repeat this until all Oreos have a long licorice piece attached. Again, returning to the first Oreo, dip one end of a short licorice piece into the melted chips and attach to either side of the Hershey's Kiss. This is the "door mouse" whisker. Repeat on the SAME Oreo with four to six short licorice pieces. Repeat until all Oreos have four to six short licorice pieces attached. Place vanilla icing into a pastry bag.** Using a "dot" tip, place two small white dots of icing on the front of the Oreo, just above the Hershey's Kiss. These are the "door mouse" eyes. Repeat until all Oreos have icing eyes. Returning back to first Oreo, dip a toothpick into the melted chocolate and gently touch onto the center of one of the white icing eyes. Dip toothpick again and repeat with the other "eye." Repeat until all Oreos are completed, changing toothpicks as hardened chocolate builds. Allow to dry completely and enjoy |
