One day while preparing for our holiday feasts, I thought of my grandmother, who never went to grocery stores, but managed to cook mountains of food for every holiday. And while, I moaned about the frenzied pace, I kept reminding myself of all gramdma did without modern conveniences. My grandfather never had a car, so he would go out and carry all the groceries home on public transportation (they lived in the city). No matter what, all our favorite foods seemed to appear at those dinners. To me, as a child it was all a big mystery, but now as a grown woman carrying on those family traditions, I really appreciate just how hard she worked to make us all happy. And, in the end, making the holidays happy and loving, is what it is all about. I have come to learn that making others happy, makes me happy too and that is the lesson I learned from her, a wonderful woman named Katy, who will live in my heart and mind forever.
