Ingredients: 3-4 lbs. chuck 3 onions, sliced 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 tablespoons shortening 1/2 cup water 1 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon ginger 1/4 teaspoon pepper 1 oz dry mushrooms 1 lb. prunes 1 cup warm water
Directions:Saute onions and garlic in shortening until onions are a golden brown. Add meat and brown on all sides. Add water and seasonings. Simmer for 1-1/2 hours. Add more water as needed. While the meat is cooking, soak the mushrooms and prunes in hot water to cover. Add them with any remaining water to the meat and continue simmering until the meat is tender. Serve the meat in a deep platter with the prunes and mushrooms around it. |
