Ingredients: 2 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 cup margarine or butter 1 cup granulated sugar 1 egg 1 tsp almond extract blanched almonds 1 egg
Directions:1 Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl. 2 Cream the margarine (or butter) and sugar together until light, white and fluffy. 3 Beat in the egg and almond essence. 4 Stir in the sifted dry ingredients to make a stiff dough. 5 Form the mixture into balls about 1 - 5 inch diameter and place these on a greased baking tray. 6 Place half an almond (split lengthways) on each ball and press to flatten slightly. 7 Brush with beaten egg. 8 Bake in a moderate oven (350 deg F) for 20 minutes or until golden. 9 Cool on a wire rack. 10 This quantity makes about 45 biscuits |
